Known as The Heart of Dixie, Alabama is home to almost 5 million people. Within its 52,423 square miles of total area, the state is composed of mountains, gentle plains, and water. With its coastline on the Gulf of Mexico Alabama has the second largest inland waterway system in the United States. Being the 30th largest state it holds many historic features and landmarks including the Trail Of Tears National Historic Trail and Natchez Trace Parkway. Generally Alabama has very hot summers and mild winters. Bordering Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, and Mississippi, Alabama sees very little snowfall throughout the winter months.
