Known as The Last Frontier and The Land of the Midnight Sun, Alaska is the largest state but the least populated. Most of the population lives in South Central Alaska. Composed of 570,380 square miles it is home to many different islands and currently active volcanoes. Snow fall occurs everywhere in Alaska though the amounts vary from region to region. Alaska was the 49th state to be admitted to the Union on January 3, 1959. |
