Known as The Natural State and formerly known as The Land of Opportunity, Arkansas is home to the Ozark and Ouachita Mountains. With its fertile plains and thick forests, the state attracts a variety of people. Arkansas was the 25th state to be admitted to the Union on June 15, 1836. The eastern border of Arkansas lies on the banks of the Mississippi River making the land home to most of the crops in the state. With a generally humid subtropical climate, Arkansas experiences very hot, humid summers and mild, slightly drier winters.
